Abseiling & Ziplining at a Quarry
Hidden deep in the forests of the Bentheimer Wald lie several old stone quarries. These quarries were once used to extract Bentheim Sandstone—not only for Bad Bentheim Castle but also for nearly every church in the region, parts of the Dom Tower in Utrecht, the Royal Palace on Dam Square in Amsterdam, and even the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty in New York. The carved sandstone was transported by horse and cart to Carelshaven in Delden, which is now a restaurant but was once an inn by a small harbor. From there, the stones were shipped via narrow canals to the Regge River, eventually reaching the IJssel.
The quarry’s rock walls rise between 20 and 30 meters high, making it a perfect spot for abseiling and ziplining. All participants are securely harnessed with climbing gear and lifelines.
The Experience
- Abseiling: Take control of your descent—go slow and steady or make a fast, thrilling drop!
- Ziplining: A 70-meter-long zipline that sends you flying at high speed, reaching the ground 25 meters below in just a few seconds—an absolute adrenaline rush!
FAQ
Sure, no problem, but you’ve already paid. We don’t force anyone to go ziplining and abseiling. Compare it to an amusement park, if you don’t dare to go on the roller coaster you’ve already paid for your ticket.
Actually almost always! Especially when the first ones have gone down…
Yes, of course! It is quite a walk to the quarry through the forest. Pets are also allowed, provided they are kept on a leash.
